This Monument, in memory of The Battle of Monte Cassino, by the Polish sculptor Gustaw ZemÅa was unveiled on May 18, 1999, exactly 55 years after the event. The Battle of Monte Cassino was actually a series of four intense and sometimes controversial battles that took place between January 20 and May 18, 1944, culminating at a 1,300-year-old Benedictine monastery on the top of the 1,100 metre Monte Cassino in southern Italy.

Album:Egypt - Cairo
30.11.2009 13.25
The Cairo Tower stands in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the River Nile, close to the city centre. At 187 m, it is 43 metres higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Cairo Tower was built from 1956 to 1961, reportedly to convince a sceptical world the nation had the capability to construct the Aswan Dam. Designed by the Egyptian architect Naoum Chebib, the tower's partially open lattice-work design is intended to evoke a lotus plant. The tower is crowned by a circular observation deck and a rotating restaurant with a view over Cairo.
